(CNN) – With multimillion dollar endorsement deals on the line, and fans representing just about every political spectrum, it is no wonder sports stars are often hesitant to wade into anything deemed even remotely controversial.

But that hasn’t been the case with the recent protests in support of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Tonight lebron james, arguably the biggest sports star on the planet, could join a number of other athletes like Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose, Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush, And Cleveland Browns’ cornerback Johnson Bademosi, who were spotted wearing T-shirts with the words “I can’t breathe.”

Those were Garner’s last words after being put in a police chokehold.

In a show of solidarity with supporters of Michael Brown, Washington Redskins player Chris Baker made the “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture during Sunday’s game versus the St. Louis Rams.
