Mayor Kevin Johnson welcomed NBA icon Isiah Thomas, for a meet and greet reception and a follow up hour long question-and-answer session with more than 300 Indivizible members in attendance for the Indivizible’s 2014 Speaker Series.  In the brief hour Thomas talked candidly with Mayor Kevin Johnson and Indivizible members about his experiences growing up in Chicago, Illinois and chronicled exactly how these experiences shaped him into the successful businessman that stood before us that evening. The common denominator in his life and what he attributes most of his success to is the educational values that his mother instilled in him. …Overall, the sentiment in the room was truly a sight to see. Indivizble members were literally sitting on the edge of their seats, hanging on to Thomas’ every word.

Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas shared his memories from what he considers to be the ten best basketball cities in the country. In the process, he told hilarious stories about the time he thought he was going to have to fight Michael Jordan, why he almost never dunked, and how it felt to have Tim Hardaway use all of his own moves against him. He also talks about his relationship with Jordan today, how relieved he was to be facing Jordan and the Bulls in 1989 as opposed to another team, and how he and the Pistons learned from the off-the-court tricks of Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics.

We are committed to being number one. However when it comes to education our game plan is flawed and our kids have not been supplied with the resources to compete and win.
